Colchester Borough Council is providing support for residents, businesses and communities throughout winter.

Service updates

Due to Coronavirus some of our services are currently disrupted. Check back regularly for updates on what services are running as normal, are distupted, or closed.

Normal

  • Benefits and local council tax
    Housing support, benefits and council tax services are operating as normal.
  • Helpline

    Helpline is running as normal and, since Easter, has made over 1,350 home visits to help vulnerable people.

  • Community services
    Community 360 are supporting residents in need with food and medical supplies.
  • Parking
    All our car parks are open and we encourage visitors to use MiPermit to make contactless payments.
  • Business support
    The council has awarded over £28 million in grants to eligible businesses and has funded Colbea to help support local businesses with fully funded 1:1 advice sessions.

Disrupted

  • Animal services
    We are currently only providing a pest control service for the external treatment of rats within your property.
  • Cemetery
    The cemetery is open, but visitors need to follow distancing guidelines.
  • Parks and countryside sites

    Parks and countryside sites are open, but visitors must follow government guidelines.

    Car parks have now re-opened.

  • Environmental
    You can report environmental and noise concerns however some visits have been suspended.
  • Housing
    The Housing Team are available by phone and email for moves that are considered urgent.
  • Planning and building control
    While planning applications are being processed as usual some site visits will be conducted virtually and site notices will be issued by email.
  • Recycling and rubbish
    Garden waste and textile collections are currently suspended until further notice. Temporary four-weekly collections of paper/card, plastic, cans and glass and an increased rubbish allowance are in place.
  • Charter market
    Some stall holders providing essential items and following Government guidelines are trading. Follow @ColchMarket for the latest info and updates.
