Winter support

Colchester Borough Council is providing support for residents, businesses and communities throughout winter.

Home boarding for dogs

Home boarding allows you to care for other people's dogs overnight.

Day care is allowed but limited to the number of dogs on your home boarding licence. The licence ensures the number of dogs you care for at one time is safe.

The licence also confirms that your home is a safe environment, and that you are a fit and proper person with knowledge and experience in canine health. You must have insurance.

You are required to monitor the dogs’ food, exercise, wellbeing, and environment to meet the standards.

The number of dogs you can care for depends on how many rooms are available to isolate dogs from one household if needed.

An inspection will take place when you apply and at least once more during the licence period.
