Kennels and catteries

It is strongly recommended that you read the statutory guidance before building any kennel or cattery spaces to ensure they meet the required standards.

Kennels or catteries built after 2018 must comply with current guidelines. If they do not, a licence cannot be granted.

All premises must meet the Five Welfare Needs:

• a suitable environment
• a suitable diet
• the ability to exhibit normal behaviour patterns
• appropriate housing — including separate sleeping areas and runs
• protection from pain, suffering, injury and disease

An inspection is required when applying and during the licence period.
