New trees can be planted using the locality budget which must cover the cost of planting, maintenance and aftercare for at least two years.
All requests for trees must be discussed with Paul Cook and his team no later than Friday 29 August 2025, the cost to plant per tree will be confirmed at this time to show the most accurate labour/material costs.
As a guide (as of February 2025), the cost to 'purchase/plant/maintain' a single tree is £520 for that period – the tree will need £220 to supply and plant, then a carry-over of £150 the following year and then another carry-over of £150 the year after, making the total cost £520 per tree.
Trees can only be planted November to March and are known as 'select standard trees' which are approximately 9 to 11 foot tall when planted, providing instant impact.
We would encourage councillors to identify a parish council, friends of group, or charity to adopt the tree and associated maintenance after the two-year maintenance has completed.
It would also be helpful if councillors considered planting new trees in areas which are already adopted by friends of groups, such as community forests for example.
