This years Great British Spring Clean was a hugh success with more than 300 local residents registering their support or an event online with us and a further 725 people signed up via the Great British Spring Clean website. Communities from Highwoods to Mersea and Tiptree to Wivenhoe embraced the community spirit by leading or joining in events and were supported by our Zone teams throughout.

Litter poses serious social, economic and environmental costs. Our zone teams clean up, enforce, manage and monitor litter Borough wide. The cost of clearing up litter costs taxpayers almost £1 billion a year. Clearn town centres and open spaces are valued by us all, contributing to a vibrant economy and places for us to enjoy.

We work closely with our partners including the police, park rangers and the DVLA to trace people who are caught littering. If you are caught littering, you could be fined £100 or, if prosecuted in court, a conviction of £2,500. Litter includes cigarette butts, crisp packets, drink containers, newspapers, in fact, anything that is dropped, thrown, left or deposited. This also includes littering from a vehicle.

Litter bins are available through the borough and if there are no bins available please take your rubbish home with you.

We regularly work on projects to encourage everyone to act responsibly in order to reduce all forms of littering.
